Is giving aid and comfort to an enemy (Iran) or its allies (Russia) by lifting sanctions not within the definition of treason?

Good question. An argument could be made for Russian sanctions relief on policy grounds, regardless of whether or not the policy were likely to achieve its intended effects. I would think that would be enough to avoid the "aid and comfort" charges which, admittedly, have a very high standard of proof.
